Hurricane Harvey- Chabad Helping In Texas

This is copied from an email forward I received. You can help donate to Chabad and they are also helping get kosher foods to the area of Houston. Which has run out of kosher meats.

One thing I’d like to add. Recently the world saw the “worse” America – that has play out on TV and yet this horrible storm has shown the world that the “Best” of America is out there helping each other and Larger and Stronger then those who are trying to Rip America Apart through horrible Racism.

I want to THANK EVERYONE WHO HAS HELPED! Weather you are in the “Thick of it all” and helping your local neighbors, or are in distant towns, lands etc.

May Hashem see this amazing kindness that has been brought forward. B’H

Here is what I copied. Excuse all the “boxes”… but click the “Read More” and another hyperlink will come up and you will be redirected to a new URL page where you can read this.

May everyone have a RESTFUL Sabbath!

Grappling With Disaster in Texas

Dear Friends,

As so many of us worldwide keep our hearts focused on Texas, please join us in praying for the safety and welfare of every one of its residents. Our sages teach us that along with prayer, resolving to perform additional mitzvot and Torah study on their behalf, and especially performing the mitzvah actions, can do much to assist everyone in need.

The heart-tugging stories of love and care from the disaster areas, stories of unbridled human caring irrespective of political and other differences, can surely serve as beacons of light for us all to focus also in “normal” times on the shared destiny and innate goodness of humankind.

Some of the light emerging from this still-unfolding story has been ignited and spread by Chabad-Lubavitch emissaries in Texas. Utilizing every possible means at their disposal – and then some – even as many of them contended with flooding in their own homes and institutions, they spearheaded creative efforts to provide shelter and food for many in need, mobilized citizens to check up on other citizens, amid an array of other activities, as needed. Needless to say, these efforts continue apace.

You can donate to a special disaster relief fund here.

More Photos of Solar Eclipse from Space

SOLAR ECLIPSE IN THE STRATOSPHERE (UPDATED): During the Great American Solar Eclipse on August 21st, the students of Earth to Sky Calculus and Spaceweather.com launched 11 high-altitude balloons from 5 states in the path of totality. We hoped to catch the Moon’s shadow sweeping across the landscape from a vantage point in the stratosphere–and we succeeded. These pictures show the inky-black shadow of the Moon darkening a 70 mile-wide patch of Wyoming/Nebraska:

The camera, a Panasonic GH4, belonged to professional photographer Josh Stansfield. He helped students launch the balloon from Ft. Laramie, Wyoming, and later processed these unique images after the payload was recovered from its landing site in Nebraska.

Another Earth to Sky balloon launched from Wyoming captured a complete HD video of the Moon’s shadow racing across the landscape. The launch team is processing it now, and it will be posted soon.

Photography was just one reason for launching so many balloons. We also flew cosmic ray sensors that sampled atmospheric radiation over 7 states (Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri and Illinois) while temperature and pressure sensors measured the effect of the Moon’s shadow on the thermal structure of the atmosphere. A first look at the data suggests that the Moon’s space-cold shadow might have the power to make helium balloons explode! Processing all of the data may take days or weeks; right now we’re just scratching the surface. Stay tuned for more results.

Solar Eclipse Seen above Earth

SOLAR ECLIPSE IN THE STRATOSPHERE: During the Great American Solar Eclipse on August 21st, Spaceweather.com and Earth to Sky Calculus launched 11 high-altitude balloons carrying more than 20 cameras from the path of totality. We hoped to catch the Moon’s shadow sweeping across the landscape from a vantage point in the stratosphere–and we succeeded! This picture shows the inky-black shadow of the Moon darkening a 70 mile-wide patch of Wyoming/Nebraska:

Sponsored by the Southern Maine Community College, the balloon was launched from Ft. Laramie, Wyoming, by a joint team of Earth to Sky students from Maine and California. This is just a single frame of a much longer HD video still being processed by the launch crew. Stay tuned for footage of the shadow in motion.

NASA Says Animals Will Be Upset With Eclipse

Please watch this video. It is about safety  during  the Eclipse  of September  2017. NASA indicates  that animals  will be upset  by the Eclipse . I’m asking  my readers to take extra  caution  -by walking  your dog’s on leashes , keeping  cats inside so they do not get hit by cars  and if you have farm animals  please  keep them in their  quarter’s .

I would  like to add also, if  you are in the areas where the towns and traffic  will be heavy make sure you have all your  provision s, medicines etc. Living in a shore town I know that increased populations clean off food store shelves  faster then normal. If you do not need to go out of your area, stay home. The traffic  jams and agitated  people may be all over the place.

If you want to view it, watch it on web. If you want to be out in it, the old way was to take a shoe box, cut a hole in it, place on ground  and watch the light in the hole dissappear  and then re-amerge. Makes a neat science  experience  for all age viewers, without  burning  your eyes.
