And they (Aaron & Moses) spoke unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying:

‘The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceeding good land.  If the LORD delight in us, then He will bring us into this land, and give it unto us–a land which floweth with milk and honey. Only rebel not against the LORD (יִהְיֶה), neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us; their defence is removed from over them, and the LORD is with us; fear them not.‘ But all the congregation bade stone them with stones, when the glory of the LORD appeared in the tent of meeting unto all the children of Israel.

And the LORD said unto Moses: ‘How long will this people despise Me? and how long will they not believe in Me, for all the signs which I have wrought among them?  I will smite them with the pestilence, and destroy them, and will make of thee a nation greater and mightier than they.’

And Moses said unto the LORD: ‘When the Egyptians shall hear–for Thou broughtest up this people in Thy might from among them– they will say to the inhabitants of this land, who have heard that Thou LORD art in the midst of this people; inasmuch as Thou LORD art seen face to face, and Thy cloud standeth over them, and Thou goest before them, in a pillar of cloud by day, and in a pillar of fire by night;

 **

And seven women shall take hold of one man in that day, saying: ‘We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel; only let us be called by thy name; take thou away our reproach.’  In that day shall the growth of the LORD (יִהְיֶה) be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel.  And it shall come to pass, that he that is left in Zion, and he that remaineth in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even every one that is written unto life in Jerusalem; when the Lord (אֲדֹנָי) shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof, by the spirit of judgment, and by the spirit of destruction.  And the LORD will create over the whole habitation of mount Zion, and over her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night; for over all the glory shall be a canopy. And there shall be a pavilion for a shadow in the day-time from the heat, and for a refuge and for a covert from storm and from rain.

**

Come near, ye nations, to hear, and attend, ye peoples; let the earth hear, and the fulness thereof, the world, and all things that come forth of it. For the LORD (לַיהוָה) hath indignation against all the nations, and fury against all their host; He hath utterly destroyed them, He hath delivered them to the slaughter. Their slain also shall be cast out, and the stench of their carcasses shall come up, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood. And all the host of heaven shall moulder away, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll; and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig-tree. For My sword hath drunk its fill in heaven; behold, it shall come down upon Edom, and upon the people of My ban, to judgment. The sword of the LORD is filled with blood (מִדַּם), it is made fat with fatness, with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams; for the LORD hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Edom. And the wild-oxen shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be drunken with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness. For the LORD hath a day of vengeance, a year of recompense for the controversy of Zion. And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch. It shall not be quenched night nor day, the smoke thereof shall go up for ever; from generation to generation it shall lie waste: none shall pass through it for ever and ever.  But the pelican and the bittern shall possess it, and the owl and the raven shall dwell therein; and He shall stretch over it the line of confusion, and the plummet of emptiness.  As for her nobles, none shall be there to be called to the kingdom; and all her princes shall be nothing. And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and thistles in the fortresses thereof; and it shall be a habitation of wild-dogs, an enclosure for ostriches.  And the wild-cats shall meet with the jackals, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; yea, the night-monster shall repose there, and shall find her a place of rest. There shall the arrowsnake make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and brood under her shadow; yea, there shall the kites be gathered, every one with her mate. Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read; no one of these shall be missing, none shall want her mate; for My mouth it hath commanded, and the breath thereof it hath gathered them. And He hath cast the lot for them, and His hand hath divided it unto them by line; they shall possess it for ever, from generation to generation shall they dwell therein.

The wilderness and the parched land shall be glad; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose.

It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice, even with joy and singing; the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon; they shall see the glory of the LORD, the excellency of our God.  Strengthen ye the weak hands, and make firm the tottering knees.  Say to them that are of a fearful heart: ‘Be strong, fear not’; behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God He will come and save you.

My Note:

Different Names in which G-d is revealed to us:

YHVH (Yaway) יְהוָה  is who removed the Hebrews and the others out from Egypt and spoke to Moses.

Adonia אֲדֹנָי –

The Lord – לַיהוָה

The word G-d here means אֱלֹהֵינוּ   (Elohim)… which is the creator God, verses Hashem which is the name that we call out to G-d by more as an all-encompassing name of all of G-d’s essences.  This is the G-d for everyone, everything created. This is not the G-d of only one type of people or religion. Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then shall the lame man leap as a hart, and the tongue of the dumb shall sing; for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.  And the parched land shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water; in the habitation of jackals herds shall lie down, it shall be an enclosure for reeds and rushes. And a highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called the way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those; the wayfaring men, yea fools, shall not err therein. No lion shall be there, nor shall any ravenous beast go up thereon, they shall not be found there; but the redeemed shall walk there;  And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come with singing unto Zion, and everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

The Day of Tears

The month of Tisha B’ Av (9th of Av –Hebrew month) usually comes sometime in the summer months of the Gregorian calendar.

The “Day of Tears” refers to the fact that calamities have happened to the Hebrews for thousands of years, starting with the day the 12 spies came back to the camp, 10 of them with flagrant reports, that the people were too big, the fruit was too big, and there was death all around them in Canaan.  Joshua son of Nun and Cheleb (Who was a convert to Judaism) were the only 2 of the leaders from the 12 tribes that came back with favorable reports. How the fruit was so big and how the land would be good for them.

From that date forward, the “Day of Tears” is full of tears, just like scriptures states it would be.

 **

And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying:

‘Send thou men, that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel; of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a prince among them.’

And Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran according to the commandment of the LORD; all of them men who were heads of the children of Israel. (Numbers Chapter 1 vs 1-3)

These are the names of the men that Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun Joshua. And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them:

‘Get you up here into the South, and go up into the mountains; and see the land, what it is; and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they are strong or weak, whether they are few or many; and what the land is that they dwell in, whether it is good or bad; and what cities they are that they dwell in, whether in camps, or in strongholds; and what the land is, whether it is fat or lean, whether there is wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land.’–Now the time was the time of the first-ripe grapes.—

So they went up, and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, at the entrance to Hamath. And they went up into the South, and came unto Hebron; and Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were there.—

Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.– And they came unto the valley of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bore it upon a pole between two; they took also of the pomegranates, and of the figs.— That place was called the valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the children of Israel cut down from thence.– And they returned from spying out the land at the end of forty days. And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land.

And they told him, and said:

‘We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it. Howbeit the people that dwell in the land are fierce, and the cities are fortified, and very great; and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.

And Caleb stilled the people toward Moses, and said:

‘We should go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.

But the men that went up with him said:

‘We are not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.’

And they spread an evil report of the land which they had spied out unto the children of Israel, saying:

‘The land, through which we have passed to spy it out, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of great stature. And there we saw the Nephilim, the sons of Anak, who come of the Nephilim; and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.’

And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.

And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron; and the whole congregation said unto them:

‘Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would we had died in this wilderness!

(Numbers Chapter 13 vs 16 to Chapter 14 vs 2)

Because of this day of “Crying” so many things have happened on this date (Tisha B’ Av).  We do not notice it due to the Gregorian calendar, however, if you corresponded the dates to the Gregorian calendar to the Hebrew calendar you would have found all the following happened on this date:

1)    The 1st temple was destroyed on this date (9th of Av)

2)    The 2nd temple was destroyed on this date (9th of Av)

3)    Simon Bar Kochba and the revolt against Roman rule in 135 CE. He and his Jewish rebels were brutally butchered in the final battle at Betar. Date of the massacre the 9th of Av

4)    The Jewish were expelled from England in 1290 CE on (9th of Av)

5)    In 1492, the Golden Age of Spain came to a close when Queen Isabella and her husband Ferdinand ordered that the Jewish be banished from the land “For the greater glory of the Church and the Christian Religion”.  The edict of expulsion was signed on March 31, 1492 and the Jewish were given exactly 4 months to put their affairs in order and leave the country. The Hebrew date on which no Jewish person was allowed any longer to remain in the land where he had enjoyed welcome and prosperity was yet again on the 9th of Av.

6)    World War II and the Holocaust, historians conclude, was actually the long drawn-out conclusion of World War I that began in 1914.  Barbara Tuchman wrote a book about the first great World War, which she called “The Guns of August”.  Had a Jewish scholar written the book, perhaps it would have been titled with a date more specific than just the month.  Yes, amazingly enough the First World War also began on the 9th of Av.

My Notes:

1.   Please Note: the 9th of Av this year corresponds to the Gregorian calendar July 20, 2013.  (Monday, July 19th after Sunset for Tisha B’Av ).   http://www.chabad.org/calendar/view/day.asp?tdate=7/15/2013

2.   There is a deeper understanding that the 9th of Av one day will be the date that the anointed one of the Lineage of King David through his son Solomon  will be born. It is also a date in which there will be no longer tears of sadness, but tears of joy.  So may it be soon in our days!

3.   There will one day be a 3rd Temple, knowing that the first two have passed, we know that the third one will be built one day. (Ezekiel Chapter 38 talks about Gog and Magog then goes into the vision of the Third Temple until the end of the book to chapter 48. Which includes all the sacrafices that will one day, be set up again.) http://www.mechon-mamre.org/p/pt/pt1238.htm

4.   Copied from:  http://www.mechon-mamre.org/p/pt/pt0413.htm (Numbers Chapters 13 & 14)

5.   Dates were copied from the Complete Idiot’s Guide to Understanding Judaism, 2nd Edition by Rabbi Benjamin Bleck, Page 186 (All the above mentioned dates in history #1 to #6)
